Angels will not retain manager Kurt Suzuki after last-place finish in 2026 New York Times (Online) Sam Blum After leading the Los Angeles Angels to the worst record in franchise history in his first season, Kurt Suzuki will not return as the team's manager, the franchise announced Wednesday. The decision came nearly a month after the season ended, and after interim general manager John Mozeliak publicly endorsed Suzuki returning to the role. The team revealed Suzuki was offered a special assistant job in the organization, which he held before he was named manager, but it was not clear whether he had accepted it. The Angels will also be seeking a new coaching staff. The Angels finished 62-100 in 2026, the first time they reached the century mark for losses . Suzuki was named their manager exactly one year ago, and he received only a one-year contract from since-fired GM Perry Minasian. “As we look toward 2027 and beyond, I have had thoughtful conversations internally and with Kroenke Sports & Entertainment's leadership about the future of Angels Baseball and the direction of our organization,” Mozeliak said in a written statement. “Those conversations have shaped the decision to seek a new manager and coaching staff for the 2027 season.” While Arte Moreno remains the owner of the Angels, it's clear incoming owner Stan Kroenke and his top lieutenants are already influencing personnel decisions. Mozeliak's contract expires in December, around the time MLB is expected to lock out the players and begin an elongated work stoppage. During Mozeliak's end-of-season news conference Sept. 28, he expressed uncertainty over whether he would return to lead the club's front office. The Angels join the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners as the three MLB teams without a manager.
