Matthew Tkachuk, Nick Cousins fined by NHL after scrap-filled Senators-Panthers game New York Times (Online) Chris Johnston The NHL has fined two players from Wednesday night's eventful, testy game between the Florida Panthers and Ottawa Senators, the league's Department of Player Safety announced Thursday. Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk and Senators forward Nick Cousins were both penalized for their actions during a third-period scrum in the Senators' 5-1 home win at Canadian Tire Centre. Tkachuk was fined $5,000 for roughing after punching Dylan Cozens as the Senators forward was being held by Tkachuk's brother, Brady. Cousins, meanwhile, was fined $4,091.49 for unsportsmanlike conduct after grabbing Matthew Tkachuk from Ottawa's bench. The incident occurred during a stoppage in play, erupting when Cozens battled with Matthew before Brady, the former Senators captain making his first game back in Ottawa since a June trade , pushed him aside. Cozens and Brady then grappled each other. As they did, Matthew then crept over and punched Cozens, leading to Sens players reacting. Cousins then grabbed Matthew and engaged with him from the Sens' bench. The scrap-filled matchup resulted in 84 penalty minutes between the teams, including separate fights that pitted Panthers forward Boko Imama against Senators forward Hayden Hodgson, and Panthers forward Sam Bennett against Senators forward Ridly Greig. The on-ice tempers mirrored the hostility that Ottawa fans brought to Brady Tkachuk's return. Fans in attendance booed him throughout the night, starting from pregame warmup and even during player introductions. They continued into the game, jeering every time he stepped on the ice and cheering whenever Senators players hit him.
