Jaylen Brown claims 'cap' on Instagram in reaction to Jayson Tatum's comments on 76ers trade New York Times (Online) Jay King Jaylen Brown helped the Philadelphia 76ers topple the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday night. Then, after the big comeback win, he appeared to take aim at former Boston Celtics teammate Jayson Tatum. In an Instagram comments section, Brown posted a blue hat — the symbol for “cap,” meaning someone is being untruthful — in response to a story Tatum told about the day the Boston Celtics traded Brown. Tatum, who shared the story in a documentary that was released on his own YouTube channel, said he was “just as much caught off guard as the rest of the world” when Boston dealt Brown to the 76ers this summer. Tatum said he was in Las Vegas when someone with him informed him of the news after a pickup basketball game. “He handed me a towel,” Tatum remembered. “He was like, 'Yo, put this on your face. Don't react. They just traded him.' “I'm like, 'Oh, s—,'” Tatum continued. “I'm like, 'Where?' He said Philly. I said, 'You traded him down the street?'” Brown's response underneath the post seemed to suggest he thought Tatum was lying. However, Brown didn't specify which part of the video he considered misleading. Tatum also spoke glowingly about his time with Brown in the video that drew Brown's comment. “I will always say that that I knew every time I stepped on that court that when it was time to go to war, I looked to my left and my right and No. 7 was over there, I knew that he was going to do whatever it took for us to try to win,” Tatum said. “The way we pushed each other, I definitely made him better, and he made me better. And we made our team better, we made this organization better. We won a championship. Like, we are forever stitched in stone in NBA history. We held up that trophy. It won't ever be forgotten.” Tatum and Brown never missed the playoffs in their nine seasons as teammates, winning a championship in 2024. That made it eye-opening when Brown said in August that he had “not really” spoken to Tatum since the big trade in the prior month. Brown's Instagram comment late Thursday night was just the latest hint that their relationship might have frayed somewhere along the way.
