Japan's Daiki Hashimoto wins fourth straight men's all-around title at gymnastics worlds New York Times (Online) Zack Pierce Japan's Daiki Hashimoto won his fourth straight gold medal in the men's all-around at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, rallying back after a slow start to top the field Thursday in Rotterdam, Netherlands. A seven-time world champion overall, Hashimoto picked up his 14th medal at worlds to go along with four Olympic medals, including all-around gold at the delayed 2020 Tokyo Games. His winning score was 85.998. Hashimoto, 25, was looking up at the leaders after his first rotation — the floor exercise. He posted just the ninth-best score of the day there, but he followed with the day's best pommel horse routine, then solid scores on rings and vault to get in the hunt. The top parallel bars score put him in first, then a monster finish on the high bar clinched the gold. China's Yang Haonan finished in second, 1.799 points behind, for his biggest senior international result. Great Britain's Joe Fraser took bronze, 2.467 points off Hashimoto's pace, for his fourth career World Championship medal. American Frederick Richard was on the rise and in sixth place after four rotations, but a rough finish on floor exercise and pommel horse dropped him to ninth. Danila Leykin, the other U.S. athlete in the field, finished 12th. Japan's Shinnosuke Oka, the reigning Olympic gold medalist, finished eighth. The men's all-around was the first individual medal event at these World Championships. The women's all-around final is Friday, with apparatus finals set for Saturday and Sunday. In Tuesday's men's team event, Japan won its third straight gold medal at top-level international meets. Japan also won Olympic gold in 2024 and the world title in 2023. Wednesday in the women's team event, China ended the Americans' streak of seven consecutive World Championship golds in a tight contest decided by just over two-tenths of a point. The young American squad was competing without 2024 Olympian Hezly Rivera, who withdrew last week due to injury.
