Amber Cox out as Indiana Fever general manager: Sources New York Times (Online) Annie Costabile The Indiana Fever are firing general manager Amber Cox, multiple sources who have knowledge of the decision told The Athletic on the condition of anonymity to protect their relationships. The move signifies radical shakeups in the front office as the franchise attempts to build a championship-contending roster around Caitlin Clark. Earlier on Friday morning, the team announced that president Kelly Krauskopf was stepping down . Indiana hired Cox in 2024 to serve in a dual role as chief operating officer and general manager, replacing former GM Lin Dunn, who moved into a senior advisory role with the organization. Before joining the Fever, Cox was the COO of the Dallas Wings from 2022 to 2024. She was the vice president of sports for the Connecticut Sun from 2016 to 2021. Krauskopf, whose career with Pacer Sports and Entertainment spanned three decades, played a direct role in Cox's hiring. She joined PS&E in 1999 and served as the Fever's original president and GM. The Fever's front office changes come as the organization braces for a pivotal free agency period that will include an attempt to re-sign unrestricted free agent Kelsey Mitchell and an extension of All-Star Caitlin Clark under the EPIC clause. A new contract provision in the recent collective bargaining agreement, the EPIC (Exceptional Performance on Initial Contract) clause enables top rookie-scale players to renegotiate their final contract year early and sign multi-year extensions. Indiana has become one of the WNBA's most popular franchises — drawing record crowds and setting viewership records — since Clark's arrival as the No. 1 draft pick in 2024. However, the team has yet to advance past the semifinals. This season, the Las Vegas Aces eliminated them in the first round. In a move that could attract more talent around Clark, Aliyah Boston and potentially Mitchell, the Fever announced plans for a new $78 million practice facility near Gainbridge Fieldhouse. This story will be updated.
